Episode #5 - “Roundtable Podcast”
Today, on a Special Galactica Quorum…
It’s a podcast…about a podcast! We discuss the three-hour roundtable (more like coffeetable… no, scotch table) podcast that was recently posted on the SciFi.com website.
We extract some of the key talking points from the discussion, including: Helo, “33,” and the not-as-mysterious Cylons.
Note: We bring up an as-yet-unseen character and speculate about his possible role, so consider that a very slight possible spoiler.
Show regulars Brian, Dimitry, and Michele fill out this week’s roster.
No commentsEpisode #4 - “The Eye Of Jupiter”
Our marathon discussion of the mid-season cliffhanger episode The Eye Of Jupiter is now ready for the masses (which is how many of you, exactly?).
Quorum participants this time were Brian, Dimitry and Michele.
We have no idea who (if anyone) is listening at this point, so please drop us a note. As well as our discussion forum, we have a Gmail address for comments, questions, and feedback: gquorum@gmail.com. Audio comments in the form of an MP3 are welcome.
No commentsWhat Really Happened to Jammer?
I asked a friend who works for NASA, what would happen is someone were to be jettisoned through an airlock, without a space suit, into space.
No commentsHere is the official NASA answer:
I finally spoke with one of the Flight Doc’s here on console in the Mission Control Center about your question — what would happen to an unprotected human released into space through an airlock of a space vehicle.
Depending on how fast the door is opened — you could go shooting out of the airlock due to the change in pressure. He said the first thing that will kill you is that your blood will literally boil — because when you open an airlock to space - the pressure goes from 1 ATM to 0 ATM instantly. Water (and blood) will boil at a much lower temperature when at low pressure — especially at zero pressure (Boyle’s Gas Law — PV=nRT). Your brain would still function for a while, so yes — you would feel the pain in a big way. The Doc thinks you would last about 15-20 seconds.
[Apparently, there was an accident here at the Johnson Space Center where someone in a non-sealed space suit was exposed to extremely low Pressure in a pressure chamber for about 5 seconds. He survived without any serious injury.]
Assuming you could survive the boiling blood for a while: If you are in the Sun — it will be incredibly hot — about 250 F. Your skin would burn pretty fast. In the shade it goes immediately to about -250F — where your skin and other organs would freeze relatively quickly. Frostbite would settle in if you could last long enough.
Then of course there would be no Oxygen — so if it weren’t for the boiling blood, you’d suffocate when you run out of breath (didn’t some guy recently hold his breath for 8 minutes under water?). In all cases — not a good day.
Good thing for space suits, and NASA procedures… It typically takes hours to open an airlock to space.
Episode #3 - “The Passage”
The Quorum finally has all members in attendance for a discussion of “The Passage.” We were able to record on a decent laptop this week so there weren’t any audio issues, aside from the logistics of using three mics between four people.
Filling out the roster this week is Brian, Dimitry, Michele, and, finally embracing his inner geekiness, Jason.
We also took a couple pics turning the podcast. See below! Just an FYI we are working on setting up a forums for fans to come chat with all of us. We’ll let you know once that goes live.

Episode #2 is ready to go… In this no-holds-barred installment we take a stick to “Unfinished Business.”
True to our role as the scrappy underdog, we were forced to record on a PC with 256MB of RAM. Yes, they still exist. No, I didn’t think XP could run on that either. The resulting recording had some blips and dropoffs so we apologize for that, but nothing too bad. I was able to clean up the worst of it.
Quorum commentators this time were Brian and, making her debut, Michele.

No commentsI feel awkward
Ok Galactica Quorum fans you finally get to hear my voice this week. We’re still working out the kinks but it’ll be awesome. Brian is formatting this week’s ep and I’ll get it uploaded asap. Don’t forget to subscribe. Or search for us on iTunes and subscribe that way.
BTW, anyone else feel awkward and dirty after that last episode of Galactica? I sure do!
No comments“Unfinished Business” podcast is… unfinished
Our modest recording setup was dismantled over the break and all the pieces haven’t been put back in place yet, so we are hoping to record tomorrow…
